American Idol Top 8 Ladies Night Recap

Last night's episode of American Idol reminded me of an old Paula Abdul song called "Rush, Rush" It seemed like the whole show was just a whirlwind. The producers really had to rush everything along to finish within the hour, it may have hindered some of the girl's performances, but lets not Paige Miles any more excuses than she already has up her sleeve(like Michael Jackson's death perhaps?). Despite the rushing, I did enjoy most of last night and a couple of people surprised me. Let's start the performance recaps shall we?:

Katie Stevens: Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway”
Ugh, another ho-hum blah performance of blandness from Katie Stevens. Katie started out as the producers pet but I think even they have grown bored with her. I kinda hope she goes home Thursday but I can see the tween fan base keeping her on just because of her age and they can "relate" to her or some nonsense.

Siobhan Magnus: The Animals’ “House of the Rising Sun”
Siobhan was great last night, as usual. She was more serious tonight, I felt she gave us a real emotional performance because it was for her dad and it felt authentic. I'm loving her unique and powerful vocals, the acapella at the start was wonderful and haunting. At this moment, Siobhan is one of my favorites and I hope she can make it far.

Lacey Brown: Brandi Carlile’s “The Story”
Finally! A performance I really loved from Lacey. Well actually, this is the first one I've really liked at all. I thought this song was perfect for her, it felt so genuine and I loved how she sang and how she can make her voice go up and down like that. I thought it was really good and I would download the single if it was on iTunes.

Katelyn Epperly: Carole King’s “I Feel the Earth Move”
I really like Katelyn but I don't know, her performance seemed phoned in, or as Kara said she was "just going through the motions." It just wasn't a good song choice or very memorable. Last week it looked like she was a lock for the top 12 but now, I'm not sure, I'd like to still think she is but there's a chance she won't make it after last nights forgettable performance.

Didi Benami: Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon”
Yay Didi! Another surprisingly good performance after two weeks of not-so-good performances. Didi finally got her guitar back out, like she did in the Hollywood rounds when she sang "Terrified", and it was great. Didi and Lacey both gave surprisingly beautiful and in-tune! performances last night and I think it will really shake things up Thursday.

Paige Miles: Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile”
Paige was horrible last night, her quavering vocals just annoyed me. She did so bad she got the Vote for the Worst crew backing her now...which I really hope doesn't get her a top 12 ticket. Randy's comment about the waiter asking if he would like "chicken, beef, or shrimp" made me LOL. In my opinion Paige has been mediocre since the start of the top 24...and also using the death of Michael Jackson as an excuse for your shiteous vocals is kind of sad, in a Lindsay Lohan kind of way.

Crystal Bowersox: Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason”
In more Randy-speak, Crystal blew it out da box this week yo! I thought she did a fantastic job, it was so good, I got chills, I kind of even think it was better than the original. I agree with Simon that there is no way she is not in the top 12, however I think he should tone down the praise...he even pimped her out on Leno Tuesday night. Hopefully people won't think she is 100% safe and not vote for her or even people might feel she is being shoved down our throats, like were being told who's the best and what we should like, and people don't like that and they will rebel. Simon just needs to let her music speak for itself, we can hear who the best is, he doesn't need to tell us every chance he gets.

Lilly Scott: Patsy Cline’s “I Fall to Pieces”
I love Patsy Cline and I thought Lilly did an admirable job. Sure it wasn't the best, it was kind of an average performance for me but I still liked it, I like her. The problem I have with Lilly though is that she hasn't really done anything too exciting for me, she's just been a stable, yet quirky performer and at this rate I see her leaving the show around 7th or 6th place, at best.

So who is your favorite and who do you think should go home? I think it will be a tough decision come Thursday, hopefully there are no shockers and the right people go home, but after last night you never know. The top 8 boys perform tonight, at 9pm est on FOX, I'll post my boys recap sometime late tonight or tomorrow morning!
