American Idol Results Show: Blah Blah Blah

{SPOILERS!} Be warned.

Tonight was the Idol results show and it played out exactly as it seemed every Idol blogger, including me, expected it to. Let's start from the top.

To start the show, we had this overlong, overdramatic, time filler listing all the contestants and Ryan telling us someone is going home...duh. After that, Idol alum and previous winner David Cook took the stage to do a solid rockin cover of the Stones' "Jumpin' Jack Flash" followed by commercial #1. After the break we got to hear about the "Judge's Save" and then see the surprisingly not-too-corny Idol Ford music video sans Casey James(because he had the flu) followed by even more Ford promotional push with the contestants being forced to design their own custom Ford Fiestas. After being force fed all the Ford nonsense we finally got to some results.

One side of the stage there was contestants, the other side of the stage held Dr. Doom's three silver stools of um doom. Paige Miles was the first to be sent over, which was kind of surprising, I thought she did alright last night, especially considering her laryngitis, but she was in the bottom 3. Next we had safe Lee, safe Siobhan, safe Aaron, then Andrew and Tim, both deserved to be in the bottom 3, but only one got sent over, and it was... Tim Urban! Yes! Please go away.


After the first part of the results we had commercial #7 followed by a performance by Michael Jackson's "This Is It" tour's singer/guitarist, Orianthi. She didn't sound bad, she played the guitar quite well, I have never heard the song before though. After her performance we got to view commercial #13.

After the break was more results: Didi, safe, Crystal, safe, Mike Lynche, safe, Katie...safe(really?), which left Casey and Lacey to stand up and it is obvious Casey isn't going anywhere... and Lacey Brown gets sent to death row along with Tim and Paige. They are all standing in the middle of the room when Ryan tells them that one of them is safe, and it's....Tim Urban!? Ugh. A shocked Tim goes and sits back down, looking like a stoner who realized he forgot to put on his pants, leaving poor Lacey and Paige left standing. Commercial #23.


After the commercial we got to hear from Ms. Blah Blah Blah herself, Ke$ha. To my total surprise she DID NOT lip sync. She sounded dreadful but at least she knows how to have (trashy)fun on stage. Oh and there was a cameo by 3!OH3! or whatever. Commercial #37.


Finally, the results we've been waiting all night for... Lacey Brown will be going home tonight, but first she must perform and the judge's must pretend that they are seriously deliberating whether or not to use the save. Lacey performed a sad, quivery version of "The Story" while the judges huddled and discussed what they ate today. Simon says they unanimously decided not to use the save, shocker. Enter video montage and tears.

Well that's what happened tonight, thoughts? I am personally a little sad for Lacey, I think she deserved to make the top 10 and Tim and Katie should have went first. I think Lacey just got lost in the crowd, she performed in the middle of the show, an average performance, nothing to talk about, she was forgotten. They didn't tell us what the theme will be for next week, I think I read it will be revealed on iTunes, so I'll make a post when I see it! American Idol Top 12 Recap: Rolling Stones Week

The big race for the title of America's Next Top Idol finally got underway tonight, the top 12 performed songs from the Rolling Stones catalog and surprisingly it was not the total trainwreck I was expecting. Clearly there are some front-runners, as well as some bottom feeders, but tonight really just seemed like a big warm-up, everyone sticking a toe in the water of the big 'Idol' stage, giving us a taste of what is to come and preview of the raging battle for 10th through 5th place. Let's get to recapping shall we?:

Michael Lynche: “Miss You”
Big Mike started out the night with "Miss You". It was a decent vocal, not very memorable, but he is a likable guy and it is not like when you see him you think "I bet he could kill a Rolling Stones cover" he did as good as can be expected in my opinion, he is one of the best male vocalists we have this year, which is kind of sad.

Didi Benami: “Play With Fire”
Next up was Didi Benami, who was clearly a little nervous. Poor girl was shaking like a chihuahua up on the big stage but I feel she gave a good performance. Her vocals were intense and emotional to me, and I agree with Simon, "Not brilliant, but solid."

Casey James: “It’s All Over Now”
Casey was third up to bat and he did something besides look cute! I felt he did a song that totally worked for him and the vocals weren't bad at all, the guitar playing was good, he was giving off the country rocker vibe, it was decent. I actually laughed at Ellen's joking critique: "Most women, their hearts are going to start racing just looking at you, right? Then for people like me…" then followed up a few seconds later with "blondes."

Lacey Brown: “Ruby Tuesday”
I am still favoring Lacey over the other 2 bottom females, Katie and Paige, but she obviously isn't the best vocalist in the competition, but at least she knows what her style is, as she showed last week with "The Story", which I loved. I wasn't as moved by her performance this week, it seemed like a more average performance, not very memorable. I liked it, didn't love it. I think she could go home this week, along with 3 or 4 other possibilities, hopefully she gets to stay until the top 10, I'd rather see her on tour than Katie.

Andrew Garcia: “Gimme Shelter”
Andrew Garcia has just crashed and burned ever since the top 24. I feel like his performances have ranged from weird to creepy to just blah. Tonight was blah. He just has mediocre vocals and makes me think that his dad's visions of his son's future as a custodian were not far off. The most interesting part of Andrew's time on stage was Simon making a jab at Kara's "lack of the Stones' anger" critique: "What was he supposed to do, come out in a tank?" he asked.

Katie Stevens: “Wild Horses”
Katie gave a performance worthy of the "Jasmine Murray 12th place ribbon" prize this week. It was totally just blah for me and I just don't think she should have made the top 12. Lilly Scott or Katelyn Epperly would have been far more interesting and entertaining. Wouldn't be surprised to see Katie going home tonight.

Tim Urban: “Under My Thumb”
Back to back mediocre performances for the iCarly set, Katie and Tim, ugh. Tim's Hawaiian punch to "Under My Thumb" was just not very good. I think he was trying to get a Jason Castro vibe going, but it just didn't work. He will stay in the competition though, judging by Twitter anyway. He was a trending topic last night for awhile and sadly, I saw so many teen girls saying how much they love him and how "hawt" he is. Also, he is the "Vote for the Worst" pick, so as horrible as this sounds, I could see Tim going as far 6th place.

Siobhan Magnus: “Paint It Black”
Many comparisons to Adam Lambert are being made after Siobhan's performance of "Paint It Black" last night, and I can see where they are coming from, but I feel like they are totally different artists. Sure, they are both unique and "weird" and can really hit those glory notes, screams, and screeches, but I feel where Adam came on to the show with a whole lotta experience(like the Broadway stage), Siobhan is still rather new at this. Which isn't really a bad thing. She has a great, natural, raw talent, a killer voice, and we will get a deeper connection with her as she gains experience on the 'Idol' stage. And like Ellen said "Like Snooki's poof, you just stand out!"

Lee Dewyze: “Beast of Burden”
Finally Lee sang a song that I didn't absolutely loathe! And he sang it well in my opinion. Lee has such a distinct, alternative rock voice and I could definitely hear him on the radio like right now. However, I feel he is destined for the Chris Daughtry 4th place finish, which isn't such a bad thing really.

Paige Miles: “Honky Tonk Women”
Paige was kinda alright this week actually. She had a few raspy and pitchy problems, but she also had some rather good qualities too. She did have laryngitis or whatever, so she gets props from me this week for delivering my favorite performance from her so far.

Aaron Kelly: “Angie”
Another surprisingly alright performance. Aaron did "Angie" justice and didn't even make me cringe once. I thought he performed the song really well and I agree with Simon when said that Aaron "chose absolutely, 100 percent the right song."

Crystal Bowersox: “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”
Mamasox got the pimp spot, again, and deservedly so. When Crystal is on stage and holding her guitar, ready to sing, it feels like a different show is about to start, like a stage at the or something. She constantly delivers great performances and I still feel she is the one to beat this year.
